Spring is here! It is a season for reawakening and reimagining. As the current school year winds down, it’s the perfect time to start planning the 2026-2027 journey for your science classrooms.
At Science With Depth, I believe in moving past "shallow" learning and diving into the authentic process of discovery. Together, we can design science experiences that trade memorization drills for the thrill of the "messy" investigation.

THE THERMOCLINE
In science, the thermocline is a layer of significant change in the ocean. In this layer, the water temperature drops rapidly as you move from the surface waters to the deep ocean. It’s also the perfect metaphor for what teacher PD is meant to be. It is the transition point where a teacher shifts from "warm," familiar surface level instruction into the more challenging, exhilarating "cool" of deep, inquiry-based science. Interactive Science Notebooks and Journals
True scientific discovery isn’t linear—it’s messy, iterative, and deep. We often feel the pressure to keep science notebooks "perfect," but real science happens in the margins. It’s time to move your students beyond the "fill-in-the-blank" page and into a system that actually reflects the work of a scientist.
In this PD session, we’ll move past simple definitions and dive into how students can document evidence-based conclusions just like professional scientists. You'll walk away with a practical framework to transform those blank pages into a living record of critical thinking and messy, beautiful inquiry.
