Science With Depth Professional Development

Science With Depth programs are designed to invite everyone to fearlessly dive into the world of science!

Each PD session includes instruction with actual science tools, giving teachers the opportunity to experience hands-on learning. (Bonus: teachers get to keep the tools!!)

When teachers see the wonder and awe of science, they are more likely to create those same experiences for their students!

Get students doing science,

thinking like scientists,

and seeing themselves as scientists.

Interactive Science Notebooks & Journals

Go From Listing Facts To Constructing Arguments

CHALLENGE: Students view science as a list of established static facts rather than a dynamic process.

SOLUTION: Implement a system that provides students space for doing science and recording evidence based conclusions.

A desk setup with a white desk lamp turned on, a white ceramic coffee mug on a saucer, an open notebook with a fountain pen on it, a closed notebook with a bookmark, and a black pen.

Creating Guiding Questions

Give Curiosity A Compass!

CHALLENGE: Students memorize disconnected facts without understanding how they all fit together.

SOLUTION: Create guided questions that provide a roadmap to explain big picture science concepts.

Desk with a lit adjustable black desk lamp, a beige ceramic mug, an open notebook with a botanical illustration, a pen, and a closed notebook.

Using Science Tools

From Passive Observers To Active Participants

CHALLENGE: Students have little experience developing the skills of scientists.

SOLUTION: Use versatile, low-cost tools to gather real-world scientific data allowing students to see themselves as scientists.

Mastery Learning

One Phenomenon, Multiple Paths

CHALLENGE: Students expect teachers to show them what to learn, not how to learn.

SOLUTION: Provide multiple pathways for students to choose how to learn about science phenomena.

A spherical object with textured, diagonal lines on its surface, placed on a flat surface against a neutral background.

Arts Integration

Give Science Meaning Through Art

CHALLENGE: Students see art as decoration, not as a tool for interpreting science.

SOLUTION: Utilize the elements of art as a language for students to express and model scientific thoughts and ideas.
